[Class 42 (i).] Calendering.-All the calendering rollers A .. J are covered with cotton, jute, paper, &c. The fabric passes from the roll U between the roller A and a sheet of argentan &c. O heated by a gas device &c. Y and thence between each pair of rollers A .. J to the take-up roll X. The sheet O can be pressed towards the roller A by steel bands and a shaft P. The rollers B .. J are heated by contact with hot metal rollers S carried on supports T which are drawn together by springs I and pressed apart by eccentrics R which are connected by rods 2 to the topmost roller bearing 3 when the pressure is relieved by the cylinder L and the rollers A .. J separated by the piston M.
