Abstract
An aluminium alloy contains 0,5-5 per cent of manganese, 0,5-1,5 per cent of silicon, 0,3-1,25 per cent of magnesium, and 0,3-2 per cent of antimony, and may be made by adding to molten aluminium solid aluminium-manganese and aluminium-silicon alloys followed by metallic magnesium and antimony. Heat treatment may comprise quenching from about 510 DEG C. followed if necessary by tempering for some hours at about 150-175 DEG C. Working operations such as pressing from sheet may be effected on the quenched alloy before tempering.
