Abstract
356,755. Four-stroke-cycle engines. MAcFARLANE, A. D., P.O. Box 1011, Station C, Los Angeles, U.S.A. June 6, 1930, No. 17667. [Class 7 (ii).] In an engine having an auxiliary charging piston 29 which is actuated by a cam through linkage mechanism, charges of combustible mixture are induced both above and below the piston. The pistons 11, 29 move together during the explosion stroke; the upper piston then rises quickly expelling burnt gases through an exhaust valve 8 and inducing a fresh charge through a valve 32, The piston 29 then returns and compresses the charge between the pistons, and draws in a second charge through a valve 9, the compressed charge between the pistons being transferred to the combustion space through passages 31. Finally, both pistons rise together. The inlet valve 32 is actuated simultaneously with the exhaust valve 8.
