Abstract

356,360. Aerials. KIRKE, H. L., 11, Newburgh Road, Acton, London. July 2, 1930, No. 20093. [Class 40 (v).] Two separate aerials are supported on a common mast system in such a way that (1) there is no undesirable " mast effect " on the radiation field, and (2) both aerials can operate on a different wavelength without producing interference patterns. As shown in Fig. 1 one aerial 1 is slung between the masts 2 and is energized centrally at 4. The second aerial system consists of two conductors 5 splayed outwardly on opposite sides of the masts 2 and fed in phase from a transmission line 6, 7. Each of the aerials 5 radiates a cardioid field, giving a resultant uniform distribution of energy. Alternatively two aerials 5 are arranged at each end of the centre aerial 1, as shown in Fig. 5, and energized from a transmission line 10, 6 ; or only two of these may be used, one on each side of the inner aerial, the distance between them being equal to one-half the working wave-length, and the supply currents being 180' out of phase.
