Abstract
Quartz, and clay and other silicates are freed from iron by treatment with dilute sulphuric acid containing 4 per cent or more of ferrous sulphate. Elevated temperatures may be used. Materials containing calcium or magnesium compounds may first be freed therefrom by pretreatment with sulphurous acid. Additional raw materials specified are kaolin, gritstone, infusorial earth, feldspars, argillaceous schist, and magnesium silicates such as asbestos.
