Abstract

354,667. Cables. CEAT CONDUTTORI ELETTRICI ED AFFINI-TORINO, BARBERIS, M., and BAGGI, V., 1, Corso Palermo, Turin. Dec. 17, 1930, No. 38094. [Class 36.] In order to avoid corrosion, the lead sheath of an underground electric cable is covered with a protective coating of bituminous material which is applied in two layers. A thin layer is applied at a temperature between 80‹ C. and 110‹ C., and a second layer at between 70‹ C. and 80‹ C. The second layer is of harder bitumen and is thicker than the first. A ribbon of non-vulcanized rubber containing sulphur is wound spirally with overlapping edges on the bitumen and is covered with impregnated paper tape layers, preferably wound in the same direction as the rubber ribbon. Layers of bitumen alternate with the paper tape layers, and armouring may complete the cable.
