Abstract
354,532. Crown cork openers. HANSON, C. J. W., 143, Rosebery Avenue, London. July 28, 1930, No. 22647. [Class- 125 (ii).] A crown cork opener of the type in which a device, which may be removably attached to a fixed element, is provided with a curved and bevelled jaw adapted to engage under the cork, the top surface of the cork bearing against another part of the device so that an upward movement of the bottle &c. carrying the cork will be sufficient to remove the same, is formed from a single strip of metal bent to form substantially a letter " D," Fig. 4, the front portion having a slot c, wider than the diameter of the cork, the lower part e of the slot being bevelled and curved to fit the neck of the bottle &c., whilst the upper part is formed with two projecting lugs r which engage the outer top surface of the cork. The ends v, s are preferably formed as shown, Fig. 4, so that the device is of a springy nature the portions v, limiting the movement of the device. The portion between the lugs r is preferably shaped as at n to guide the cork into position. The device is stated to be efficient even if fitted upside down.
