Description

BOTTLE ATTACHMENT File" Feb. 1e, 1934 Patented June 4, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BOTTLE ATTACHMENT Gunnar R. Johnson, Milton, Mass.
Application February 16, 1934, Serial No. 711,509
3 Claims.
My invention consists of a metal clip for use on bottles containing milk or beverages of any kind, to support a tag or card bearing the price of the contents cr some advertisement or information relating thereto.
My invention is adapted especially for bottles commonly used for milk, beer, tonics and the like, using the familiar metal cap having a crimped or corrugated edge, the clip being adapted to spring over and engage the beaded rim of the neck of the bottle, and frictionally to support a tag or card of suitable material between it and the bottle.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a clip embodying the same, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the neck of a bottle and the cap thereon with my clip engaging the same.
Referring to the drawing, 3 is the neck of a bottle, having the ordinary metal cap 4 thereon engaging the beaded edge 5 of the mouth of the bottle, the cap being broken away to show the bead 5. 6 is a clip embodying my invention, consisting of a piece of spring metal, preferably brass or other non-corrosive material, bent approximately at a right angle and forming a at hook shaped end 1. The shank 8 of the clip is preferably slightly tapering towards the end. At a suitable distance below the hook 1, on the inside of the shank 8, is a lip 9, preferably made by forming an inverted V shaped incision in the shank 8 and bending inwardly the metal enclosed Within the incision. The lip 9 is located a suilicient distance beneath the hook 1 so that` when the hook rests upon the bottle cap, the lip 9 may be sprung under the edge of the cap, and the clip thereby secured to the neck of the bottle.
It is obvious that other means may be used to form a lip 9 or its equivalent to function as described and embody the substance of my invention. The clip should be tempered to impart to it the required permanent spring action.
In applying the clip to the bottle, it is hooked over the top of .the cap 4, and then pressed down sufficiently to enable the lip 9 to slip under the edge of the cap 4. The clip will then be secured to the bottle so that the shank 8 will have a yielding contact with the neck of the bottle and with suicient friction between them to support a tag or card I0, as shown, bearing any gure or legend desired by the user.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a bottle having an annular bead formed around its mouth, and a cap for the top of the bottle having a rim extending over and tightly engaging said bead, a resilient hook shaped clip having a shank positioned against the bottle and an upper end extending laterally substantially at a right angle to the shank of the clip and bearing upon the top of said cap, a lip formed upon `said shank and engaging the edge of the rim of said cap, said cap being gripped between said upper end of the clip and said lip, and the said shank of the clip being thereby yieldingly held in contact with the bottle to hold a card thereagainst.
2. In combination With a bottle having an annular bead formed around its mouth, and a cap for the top of the bottle having a rim extending over and tightly engaging said bead, a resilient hook shaped clip having a shank positioned against the bottle and an upper end extending laterally substantially at a right angle to the shank of the clip and bearing upon the top of said cap, a lip formed upon said shank, said lip consisting of a cut out portion of the shank inclined upwardly and engaging the edge of the rim of said cap, said cap being gripped between said upper end of the clip and said lip,
yieldingly held in contact with the bottle to hold a card thereagainst.
3. In combination with a bottle having an annular bead formed around its mouth, and a cap for the top of the bottle having a rim extending over and tightly engaging said bead, a resilient hook shaped clip having a shank positioned against the bottle and an upper end extending laterally substantially at a right angle to the shank of the clip and bearing upon the top of said cap, a lip formed upon said shank, said lip consisting of a cut out V shaped portion of the shank inclined upwardly and engaging the edge of the rim of said cap, said cap being gripped between said upper end of the clip and said lip, and the said shank of the clip being thereby yieldingly held in contact with the bottle to hold a card thereagainst.
GUNNAR R. JOHNSON.
.and the said shank of the clip being thereby
