Abstract

353,902. Motor vehicles. GILFORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., 465, Holloway Road, Holloway, London, and HORNE, E. B., 2, Pretoria Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. April 29, 1930, No. 13136. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iii).] A motor road vehicle having a self-supported body, i.e. one which forms the frame, has the body mounted on individuallysprung front driving wheels 1 and individually-sprung rear wheels, the engine 2, driving gearing and steering- gear, being disposed forwardly of the passenger and load-carrying space. In the construction shown the final drive 4 is between the engine 2 and the gearbox 3, and the steering wheels 1 are driven through detachable transverse cardan shafts 6. The engine and gearing parts are detachably supported on the body so that they can be removed separately or together. The front part of the body is recessed to receive the engine. The driver's seat 7 and the controlling mechanism are placed forwardly of the engine. The rear wheels may be four in number. According to the Provisional Specification a radial cylinder engine may be used, and the floor may be well below the level of the wheel axles.
