Abstract

353,799. Checking output of machines. OLIVETTI & CO., Ing., C., Ivrea, Italy. Oct. 25, 1930, No. 32143. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1929. [Class 106 (iv).] A device for indicating to a machine-operative or other workman the efficiency with which he has worked comprises a drum rotatable in accordance with the amount of work accomplished, a chart having a number of percentage scales mounted on the drum, and a stationary time scale or time driven pointer co-operating with the chart to permit the percentage of work done to be read off or directly determined. In one form of construction, Fig. 1, the chart with curves appertaining to different working speeds and outputs is mounted on a drum 1 actuated in a step-by-step manner through gearing from a member 19 receiving impulses from the machine &c. under observation. Parallel to the axis of the drum a scale 2 is mounted graduated in hours and minutes with omissions representing intervals in the working time. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, a clockwork mechanism 11 drives a screwed spindle 13 carrying a nut 14 on which is mounted a pointer 10 co-operating with the drum chart. In the above described constructions to utilize the same chart for different working speeds the scale 2 in the first instance is made of uniformly extensible material being fixed at its lower end to a block 24 and attached at its upper end to an adjustable clamping nut 22. In the second form the pointer 10 is loosely carried by the nut 14 and has an extension 15 engaging a pivoted forked member 16 the inclination of which can be adjusted with respect to the screw 13 so as to vary the displacement of the pointer. In another construction shown in Fig. 7 when the machine is working at the prescribed efficiency the drum appears stationary. For this purpose a differential gear is provided to rotate the drum one member of said gear is advanced by impulses from the machine and the other member is driven in accordance with the elapsed time. The chart for this type of apparatus is formed with lines radiating from a point. Instead of a scale and percentage chart a fixed pointer and a chart representing the number of parts to be completed at each position of the drum may be provided.
