Abstract
353,133. Flow boxes for Fourdrinier or like machines for making paper &c. VOITH, W., VOITH, H. and VOITH, H., (trading as VOITH, J. M.), Heidenheim-on- Brenz, Wurtemberg, Germany. May 13, 1930, No. 14748. [Class 96.] A flow-box for machines for making paper, pulpboard, &c., of the type having an adjustable lip and an outlet channel of decreasing cross-section, has the outflow channel substantially unobstructed, the lower wall being at substantially the same level as the wire at each end and an intermediate portion of bowl-shape in cross section below the level of the wire. The stuff flows from the flowbox 5 over a weir 6 and between the lower wall 2 and the adjustable lip 3. There may be a spacing piece 8 and the top 6a of the weir may be curved or flat. The lower wall 2 has a forward lip 2b which may be plane or curved, such curvature may be concavo-convex. The inflow current normally maintains circulation of the stuff in the bowl-shaped portion 2a, but supplementary agitation may be effected by a plain rapidly revolving shaft of small diameter, or by a small perforated roller or bladed element, the upper surface of any such agitating device being below the level of the wire.
