Abstract

m -Anthraquinone dithiazoles.-The imide chlorides of di-21-anthraquinonoyl-p-diaminoaryls are treated with sulphurizing agents to give vat dyes which are identical with the products obtained according to Specification 189,367, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. The term p-diaminoaryls includes benzidine. In examples anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride is condensed with benzidine and the diamino derivative treated with phosphorus pentachloride. The diimide-chloride thus obtained is heated in naphthalene with sulphur to give a product dyeing golden-yellow shades; this product may alternatively be produced in one operation without isolating the intermediate products. Similar dyestuffs may be obtained by replacing benzidine by p-phenylene-diamine, or the anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride by chloro-methoxy-, or 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid halides.
