[Class 122 (iii).] In steam engines, internal-combustion engines, motors driven by air, water, &c., and pumps delivering such fluids the cylinder or cylinders are arranged tangentially and revolve relatively to an eccentrically located circular track and operated by swinging connecting-rods pivotally connected to members bearing on and guided by the track. The Figure shows the cylinders 11, 12, 13 arranged tangentially in a block, the pistons 14, 15, 16 being connected by swinging connecting-rods 17, 18, 19 to rollers 27, 28, 29 guided by an eccentric track 40, the outer ends of the connecting-rods being connected by rods 20, 21, 22 to the cylinder block. In alternative arrangements one connecting-rod is attached to a member adapted to slide on the track and the other connecting-rods are attached to shoes sliding on said member, or the rods 20, 21, 22 dispensed with and all the connecting-rods are attached to the member sliding on the track. An oscillating motion may be imparted to this member by means of a crank. The cylinder block or the track may rotate and in the latter case balancing may be effected by holes 42 or additional weights 43. In multiple systems the groups of cylinders or tracks may be set angularly to each other.
