Abstract

350,844. Lubricating bearings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Wade, R. B. ; 107, Aspen Road, Swampscott, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) Sept. 16, 1930, No. 27666. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1929. [Class 12 (ii).] Lubricant is supplied under pressure to a horizontal groove 12 in that side of a shaft bearing at which the movement of the shaft is upwards, and is discharged through a pipe 16 from a diametricallyopposite groove 15, the ends of the groove 15 being connected with inner annular grooves 20 between which the groove 12 is arranged, and each groove 20 is formed, adjacent the groove 15, with a dam 21. Escape of oil from the ends of the bearing is prevented by outer annular grooves 17 formed with dams 18 opposite the dams 21 and provided in the lower part of the bearing with discharge passages 19. The upper part of the bearing is provided with a central recess 11. Oil which reaches the grooves 20 is carried round, with the oil in the recess 11, into the channel 15 whence it is forced into the pipe 16.
