342,057. Lubricating bearings. BAUMANN, K., Northwoodhouse, Barnfield, Urmston, Lancashire, GUY, H. L., Thornhill, Hale Road, Hale, Cheshire, and HODGKINSON, F., 56, St. Michael's Road, Bedford. Nov. 30, 1929, No. 36804. [Class 12 (ii).] In a journal bearing provided with separate oil inlet and outlet chambers 3, 4 respectively, arranged adjacent one another in a circumferential direction so that the oil passes around substantially the whole of the bearing surface, a scraper 5 is arranged between the two chambers so as to remove the hot oil from the journal 1. The scraper 5 may be formed integral with the wall of the bearing or may be adjustably secured therein, or it may be pressed against the journal by a spring 6, Fig. 1, or by the pressure of the oil in the chamber 3 acting on the rear of the scraper through a conduit 7, Fig. 4, or by its own weight as shown in Fig. 5. The chamber 4 may be open at its ends. The chambers 3, 4 may be so arranged that the oil either passes first over the upper half of the bearing and then over the lower half, as in Fig. 1, or vice versa, as in Figs. 4, 5.
