Abstract

The antiknock properties of gasoline obtained by straight distillation without cracking are improved by subjecting it to a cracking treatment, preferably at about 600 DEG C., under pressure. The gasoline is preferably first separated by distillation into a light and a heavy fraction and the heavy fraction only may be subjected to the treatment, after which the fractions are again mixed. Catalyst, e.g. nickel, cobalt, vanadium, or silica gel may be used.
