Abstract
349,421. Butt joints for pipes. BROMFORD TUBE CO., Ltd., BONNEY, D., and STANT, E. N., Wheelwright Road, Erdington, Birmingham. March 19, 1930, No. 38046. Divided on 351,015. [Class 99 (i).] The end faces of the pipes to be joined are shaped to provide a recess in which is located a packing ring 12 of slightly larger bore than the bore of the pipes, the ring being compressed inwardly when the joint is tightened until its bore is flush with that of the pipes. The inner part of the ring is shaped to correspond with the recess formed between the bevelled surfaces 18, and the outer part 19 of the ring has a slight taper. Flanges 20 are screwed on to the pipe ends and abut shoulders 17, or loose flanges may be used which are welded to the pipes at the sides remote from the joint.
