[Class 44.] A latch-bolt b for motor vehicle &c. doors is shot by a spring c and may be withdrawn by a follower d on an outside handle-spindle e or by a lever connected by a link i with an inside handle-lever (not shown). The members d, f respectively engage abutments k, l on the bolt. The outside handle f may be locked by means of a rotating barrel lock m axially mounted in the handle and having a spindle y with an eccentric pin o which serves, when the barrel is rotated by key, to shoot a bolt p, transversely slidable in the handle, into engagement with a notch q in a plate r secured to the door. The plate r is covered by an escutcheon plate s. The handle f and barrel m are secured on the spindle by a cotter t engaging a groove u in the spindle e, and their removal from the door is prevented by a washer v held by a ring w in a groove in the handle. The spindle is also secured to follower d by providing the spindle with a slot and expanding it by a screw x screwed axially into the end of the spindle. According to the Provisional Specification the inside handle may be on the same spindle as the outside handle, and the locking device provided acts on the follower.
