Abstract
345,856. Securing railway rails to sleepers. PADDON, S. S. W., Butter Hill House, Dorking, Surrey, GALES, Sir R. R. and MUGGERIDGE, H. C., 55, Broadway, Westminster. April 28, 1930, No. 13074. [Class 104 (ii).] Rails are secured to sleepers by loose jaws 15 having shanks 16 passing through holes 17 in the sleeper and engaging the underside thereof, the shanks being shaped to have two or more line contacts with the holes 17. The desired shape may be given to the shank by forming its periphery of a number of arcs 18, 19, 20 struck from centres 21, 22, 23, none of which centres coincides with the centre of the hole 17. This shape gives contact with the hole 17 at the points 25, 26. The underside of the jaw may be cut away at 29 to facilitate insertion of the shank in the hole.
