Abstract
343,400. High-tension switches. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. -(Assignees of Mendenhall, V. D.; Baltimore, U.S.A.) May 13, 1930, No. 14743. Convention date, May 13, 1929. [Class 38 (v).] Contacts.-A terminal support 21, particularly for an outdoor insolating switch, carries a pair of members 24 each of which is formed with two sockets 25 to receive lugs 26 on parts 10, 11 forming a housing for fixed contacts. Springs 28 bias the parts 10, 11 about the sockets so that normally the top of the housing is closed. When the contact leader 14 moves to engage its fixed contacts, it engages the surfaces 19 to separate the two parts and at the same time clears itself of ice and snow deposits, the two parts re-engaging one another under the action of their springs 28 when the blade 14 is in contacting position. Surfaces 20 cause the separation of the parts when the blade is removed to open the switch. The fixed contacts comprise opposed parallel plates 12 in an enlargement 30, the plates receiving the blade 14 between them and being biased by springs similar to 28 so as to be self-aligning.
