[Class 38 (v).] Oil-switches.-In switches of the kind in which the co-operating contacts comprise a pair of switch jaws and a co-operating switch blade two stationary jaws of calliper formation are bridged by a contact member carried by a relatively moving structure and comprising a pair of parallel blades each adapted to bridge the stationary contacts, the said blades being forced into high pressure with the co-operating jaws when in position therein by a toggle reaction between them. As shown in a singlephase double-break oil circuit breaker the stationary contacts 1, 1<1> comprise rigid jaws while the moving contact assembly comprises a cross frame 4 having insulated draw rods 3 and provided with upper, lower, and inner stops 5, 6, 7 for the current-carrying straps 8 which are connected to the cross frame 4 by toggle levers 10, 10<1> and by springs 9 which urge the straps into contact with the upper and inner stops 5, 7. On upward movement of the moving contact assembly the straps 8 enter freely the jaws of the stationary contacts 1, 1<1> and are stopped thereby, Continued upward movement of the cross frame 4 causes the straps 8 to be forced outwardly by the toggle levers 10, 10<1> into high pressure contact with the rigid jaws of the stationary contacts 1, 1<1>. The toggle levers each comprise two straps 13, 14 connected together at their ends with inserted distance pieces causing the toggles to be somewhat resilient at the centre opposite their pivots 17, 18.
