Abstract
341,663. Milling-machines. HOPPE, O., 27, Kirchstrasse, Rorschach, Switzerland. Dec. 12, 1929, No. 38134. [Class 83 (iii).] A milling-machine having an overhanging arm adjustably mounted between the column 1 and an outboard support 5 is provided with a spindle 11 mounted on the overhanging arm and connecting the main spindle 6 with an auxiliary vertical spindle 15. The latter spindle is mounted at its upper end in a sliding member 17 which is actuated to effect the vertical adjustment of the spindle by means of a screw 20. When the vertical spindle is not required, the pinion 8 may be disengaged from the wheel 7 by means of a handle 22. In a modification, Fig. 4, the shaft 11 is connected through gearing 14, 23 to a shaft 24 driving a second horizontal spindle 31. This spindle is axially adjustable in a bearing 32 by means of a screw 36 which engages in a bracket 33 sliding in the overhanging arm and carrying the forward end of the spindle. The main spindle 6 carries a splined cutter arbor 38 which is axially adjustable by means of a sliding bracket 40. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the vertical spindle 15 carries a bevel wheel 42 driving a universal milling spindle 44 mounted in a member 46 which can be angularly adjusted on the under surface of the arm 3.
