Abstract

Guarding against unauthorized use.-Means for locking a ball-and-socket mounted gear lever in its neutral position on a motor vehicle comprises a plate or plates pivoted to a bracket arranged over the gear-box and adapted, after having been swung transversely to engage the lever, to be padlocked to a second bracket. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a pair of plates a, pivoted to a double-angle bracket d and formed with recesses c to engage the gear-lever, are provided with right-angled end plates b with a number of holes enabling the arms to be padlocked in various positions in relation to the similarly perforated fixed bracket e. Half-collars f as shown in Fig. 5, may be fitted to regulate the size of the recesses c to suit the lever to be locked. In the alternative form shown in Fig. 7, a single swing- ing plate a' is employed, the locking action being effected by pressing the control lever laterally so that its lower end engages the side of the gearbox. In either form, the brackets d, e may be integral with a base-plate g which, in affixing, would be threaded on the lever after removing the hand grip.
