Abstract

Skid; sprags.-Vehicle braking means comprises toothed or studded shoes 17 adapted to be lowered by cables to engage between the wheels and the track and a pair of sprags comprising toothed or studded shoes 10 carried by pivoted rods 11 which are simultaneously lowered by the pedal 15. The upper ends of the rods 11 are arranged to slide against springs 13 to lessen the shock at braking. The rear shoes 17 are mounted on the rods 11 and become disengaged therefrom when the rods are lowered, and are then held bv cables. Energy-absorbing elements,-The main bodv of the vehicle is provided with an inner slidable bodv 2 provided with a rack 3 geared to a pinion at 7. A telescopic shaft 20 is geared by bevel gearing at its ends respectively to the pinion and to a toothed wheel or cylinder 4 which is lowered to engage the track at braking whereby the slidable body part 2 is driven rearwardly and the momentum of the vehicle reduced. A spring-operated support 8 is provided for the body 2 in its rearward position.
