Abstract
337,504. Bennis, A. W. Aug. 22, 1929. Grates.-A travelling chain grate is driven by a main driving shaft arranged between the upper and lower runs of the grate through trains of reduction gearing and a number of stub shafts carrying the sprocket wheels engaging the driving chains of the grate. As shown in Fig. 1, the main driving shaft is formed in sections 10, 10<a> &c. connected by flexible couplings 11 and mounted in bearings 25 on brackets 26 secured to a channel member 27. The brackets also carry bearings 28 for stub shafts 12, 22 which are driven from the main shaft through trains of gearing 13 - - 18. Each stub shaft carries sprocket wheels 19 and 20 and 21 &c. and drives a section only of the grate, the sprocket wheels driving one section being angularly displaced in relation to those driving an adjacent section, Fig. 3, so that the links of adjacent grate sections are not in alignment transversely and thus removal of the links from their carrier bars is facilitated. The channel member 27, which forms part of the grate frame, is carried on rollers 30 so as to be displaceable longitudinally of the grate.
