Abstract

336,358. Coleman, F. Aug. 23, 1929. Rollers, road. - A roller for road making &c. consists of a number of narrow sections a each of which is rotatably mounted on a cylindrical bush b. An axle d of square cross-section passes through rectangular slots c in the bushes b, and thus each section a of the roller can move vertically relative to the others. The axle d is secured to a double-ended frame for towing from either side. A radial oil passage closed by a plug may pass through each section to a groove h in the bush b. The roller may also be used as part of a steam roller, in which case springs are provided between the axle d and the ends of the slots c to support the weight of the engine.
