Intaglio-plate printing; impression adjustments; bed-reciprocating apparatus.-In a plate printing-machine in which the plate 20<1> is carried by a reciprocating bed 20, the bed 20 is moved over a track which is raised and lowered to permit the plate to contact with the stationary inking and wiping mechanisms 14, 16, 16<1>, as the plate moves to the left, and with the impression roller 21 at the commencement of the motion of the plate to the right. The track consists of sliding members 25 arranged near each side frame 11 of the machine, which are supported on rollers 46 and are reciprocated from a cam 39 bv lever-and-link mechanism 27, 29, 31, 33, 36. The track members are lowered when their cut-away parts 59, 59<1> are supported by the rollers 46. The bed 20 is reciprocated by a roller 56 on an endless chain 47 which engages a vertical slit 57 in a driving-fork 54 attached to the bed 20. The fork 54 is guided longitudinally by a longitudinal slot fitted to slide along a fixed guide. The sheet to be printed is registered with its rear edge against stops 24, and, as the bed commences to move to the Tight, the impression cylinder 21 is thrown on impression, and the sheet is pressed against the inked plate by the cylinder 21. The tracks 25 are then moved to depress the bed so that the printed sheet passes the wiping and inking mechanism without contacting therewith. The sheet is detached for delivery before the return of the plate which is raised for inking and wiping purposes. The bearings of cylinder 21 are rotated to raise this cylinder after the impression has been taken to allow the inked plate to pass under it without contact.
