Abstract

334,330. Spanner, E. F. July 12, 1929. Leakage, removing.-In ships having doublebottoms, bilge water is removed in a filtered condition by providing below the level of the tank top 1 an athwart ship channel 5 in communication at one end with a pump line preferably running fore and aft in a duct keel 3, and, at the other end, either directly with a grid G in the margin plate 4 or by means of a short length of pipe with the bilge corner. Filters a, b are interposed in the channel 5. In modifications the suction pipe is carried athwart ship and terminates in a strum box.
