Abstract

333,197. Triggs, W. W., (American Hair & Felt Co.). April 4, 1929. Fibres, treating.-Animal hair, feathers, and the like are treated with ozone by feeding the loose material from a pneumatic conveyer through an opening 13 into a chamber 1, so that the material in passing downwards is brought into intimate contact with a current of ozonized air which enters at an opening 26<1>. A belt conveyer 27 provided with spikes 29 traverses the floor 3 to the chamber 1, withdrawing part of the treated material through an opening 8 so that it falls into a hopper 35, and causing the remaining material to circulate within the chamber. A baffle wall 14 serves both to reflect the entering material into the path of the current of ozone, and to protect a screened air outlet 15. The ozone is produced by means of an ozonizer 16 through which a fan 20 working in a pipe 24 forces the air which enters the chamber at 26<1>.
