Chairs, securing to sleepers; chairs with separate jaws; sleepers, metal, and securing rails thereto.-Unpierced metal sleepers have outer edges with downwardly and upwardly inclined teeth engaged by teeth on the means securing the rails to the sleepers. In Fig. 2, the sleeper b has teeth b<2> while the chair c has toothed lugs c<1>, c<2> and the bolts e have toothed heads e<2>, the bolts having- square heads. The rail is secured by a lug on one side of the chair and by wedgeplates d on the other side. In Fig. 11, the sleeper teeth are engaged by toothed lugs h<1> on chair members h<3> drawn together by bolts m, the bolt on one side of the rail passing through wedge blocks k in contact with the rail. Fig. 14 is a modification of Fig. 11 with the rail resting directly on the sleeper and secured by members i<3>, bolts m and wedges k. The top of the sleeper may be slightly curved, and straightened by tightening the bolts m. In Fig. 22, two sleeper parts b are forced into contact with toothed lugs p<1> on a chair p by a wedge-plate s, and a bolt r also passing through a wedge member o in contact with the rail. The upper limbs of the sleeper parts may also be curved.
