Magazine gramophones.-In a device for transferring or conveying a disc record, means are provided to grip the record by engagement with the edge of the central aperture and with a point on the outer edge of the record. As shown, a construction capable of dealing with records of various sizes comprises an arm 11, Fig. 1, fixed to a post 2 capable of sliding and rotating in a sleeve 3, and having at its free end a pin 4 and at its other end a plate 6. The latter is slidable in a slot 8 in the arm 1, and has a bevelled and curved edge 12 and a pin 9 connected by a tension spring 10 to the free end 11 of the arm 1. A rotatable spindle 13 within the post 2 has a crank 14 to which is attached a link 17, and the latter has a slot in which the pin 9 can slide. To pick up a record, the spindle 13 is revolved so that the link 17 moves the plate 6 to the left, Fig. 1. The arm 1 is now moved so that the pin 4 passes into the central aperture of a record, and further movement of the link 17 releases the pin 9 so that the plate 6 under the action of the spring 10 moves, and the edge 12 thereof engages the perimeter of the record. The latter thus moves slightly so that the edge of its central aperture engages the shoulder 5, and the record can then be lifted. In a modification capable of lifting records of two different sizes, such as 10-inch and 12-inch records, the arm 18, Fig. 5, has a flange 19 and at its free end a shouldered pin 21. A stop 25 projecting just below the flanges 19 is fixed mid-way along the arm 18. Two plates 26, 31, Fig. 8, are connected by pillars 27, 28, which are slidable in slots 29 in the arm 18. To the lower plate is pivoted a plate 39 having a curved and bevelled edge 43 and hooks 46. The upper plate 31 is connected by links 32, 35 to a slidable rod 38 in the post 20. In operation, the arm is positioned so that the pin 21 enters the central aperture of a record and the rod 38 is moved upwards to slide the plates 2:6, 31, to the left, Fig. 5. If the record is a small one, the edge of the record is engaged by the edge 43 of the plate 39; if the record is large, the hooks 46 engage the edge of the record.
