Abstract

329,460. Lovelady, H. April 9, 1929. Hand-trucks.-A pivoted platform 12 for use in handling loads is mounted for tilting back about the axis 11 when lifted and for independent downward tilting at any time. In one form of the apparatus, Fig. 1, the platform 12 is pivoted on a bar 11 of a carrier 10 movable in vertical guides 2 on an electrically-propelled truck 8. The platform 12 is provided with vertical arms 13 free to move between stops 14 on uprights 15 secured to the bar 11. The arms 13 are moved towards the position shown by a torsion spring and retained by the catch 19 until released by the hand-lever 18 for tilting the platform to discharge the load. The bar 11 is journaled in the side-members of the carrier 10, and hoisting ropes 5 are connected with the uprights 15 at 16 and led under sheaves 3 on the carrier 10 and over guide sheaves to a motor-driven winch 6. On hoisting, the uprights 15 are drawn backwards against stops, overcoming the resistance of a spring 17, and the platform is tilted upwards to retain the load. When it is desired to support a cask &c. by lifting-dogs 21, Fig. 2, the stops 14 are displaced and the platform 12 is turned right back. In a modification, Fig. 3, the platform is supported by unequal links 25, 26 pivoted in the frame of the truck. The upper link 26 is tilted by winding-gear 28 so as to raise and tilt the platform. A counterweight 33 is provided slightly less than the deadweight of the platform,
