Abstract

327,719. Heide, H. C., (Costanievich, L.). Dec. 4, 1928. Propelling.-A streamline fish-shaped body is placed immediately behind an airscrew or other screw propeller so as to fill up the normal medial cavitation region. This body may be mounted on brackets on the hull or may be carried by the screw propeller and instead of being symmetrical may be asymmetric for assisting in correcting the propeller slip stream. The streamline bodies 2, Figs. 1 and 2, are carried by brackets 6 on the hull and are lined up immediately behind the boss of the propeller 3. The body 2, Fig. 8, may have a spiral groove 10 on its surface and its nose may be fitted with a filler piece 4 which closes the gap between it and the propeller. When carried by the propeller the body 2 may rotate, Fig. 4, or may be freely mounted on an extension 14, Fig. 5, on the propeller shaft.
