Pistons; connecting-rods.-In a piston in which the head and skirt are secured together by the gudgeon-pin, the head 8 is preferably of aluminium alloy, while the skirt 2 is of hard metal, such as cast-iron, and carries the packing- rings 6 and the scraper ring 7. Leakage between the head and the skirt is prevented by means of packing-rings 15 in grooves in a cylindrical part 12, depending from the head and carrying the gudgeon-pin bosses 10. In a modification, Fig. 4, the packing-rings 15 are carried by a depending flange 12, the gudgeon-pin bosses being carried by a cylindrical part 9 concentric with the flange 12. The gudgeon-pin is provided with bearing pads 17, and rotation of the gudgeon-pin may be prevented by means of a pin 18 engaging a groove in the bore in the skirt.
