Scoop-arm machines.- In an excavator, the bucket 19 is pivoted to an arm 17 which is pivoted to the end of an adjustable jib 15; a loading cable 26 passes from a drum 29 between rollers 27, 28 and is attached to the bucket in front of the centre of gravity of the latter, while a boom line 25 passes from a drum 25<a> over double sheaves 22, 23 and is attached to an arm 24 on the bucket at a point behind the centre of gravity of the latter.
