Abstract

326,369. Jencick, S., April 3, 1929. Fluid-friction vibration-dampers.-A reciprocating piston having flat sides and rounded ends is operated by a short arm carried on a spindle to which the usual operating-arm is connected, the cylinder in which the piston moves consisting of a circular cylindrical casing having segmental inser. tions and enclosed within an outer cylindrical casing, the space between the two forming a reservoir. The outer casing 4, Figs. 1 and 3, all secured to the base 1 which is bolted to the side frame of the vehicle. The operating-spindle 13, which is operated by the arm 11, carries a short arm 14 which reciprocates the piston 8 horizontally, the piston being guided by segmental insertion 9, 10 in the inner cylindrical casing 5, and the ends of the cylinder being curved to the same radius as the inside of the casing. The two compartments at each end of the cylinder are connected by a leakage groove 16 on the outside of the segmental block 10, the size of the leakage orifice being adjusted by the screwed plug 17. A one-way ball valve 19 enables leakage of oil to be made up from the reservoir.
