Abstract
325,663. Main, G. A., and Main Ropeways, Ltd. Jan. 11, 1929. Tip-buckets.-A tip-bucket for use on aerial ropeways is tipped and righted positively by mechanism, driven preferably from the running wheel 2, including a step-by-step device which ensures correct timing. A bevel wheel 1 loose on the shaft 1<a> is geared to a trunnion of the bucket and is driven to tip and right the bucket when a clutch member 26 is moved to the right. A ratchet wheel 15 is driven by a pawl 14 carried on a bar 13 and reciprocated by a cam 19a which is driven from the running wheel through gearing 17, 18. Normally the pawl 14 is held by a rod 12, 12a in its raised position out of range of the ratchet teeth. When the striking-bar 11 is thrown over at a predetermined position on the ropeway, the pawl is lowered to the position shown, and the wheel 15 is driven from the running wheel by the ratchet gear. The wheel 15 is provided with a holding pawl 21. After a predetermined movement of the gear, a cam 22<a> on the face of the wheel 15 engages jaws 23 on one arm of a bell-crank lever so that the other arm 25, Fig. 4, moves the clutch member 26 with engagement with a clutch member 26a keyed on the shaft 1<a>, and the wheel 1 is driven to tip the bucket through 360 degrees. The cam 22<a> is then clear of the jaws 23 and the clutch is disengaged. The ratchet wheel continues to turn until a stop pin 31 thereon reaches the pawl and throws it out of action. The ratchet wheel starts the next operation from this position, so that the movement of the ratchet wheel necessary to start the tipping of the bucket may be varied by inserting the stop pin 31 in a different hole 32 in the wheel. The striker 11 is re-set at a loading station, and on the next operation of the mechanism the pawl is enabled to re-engage the ratchet wheel, as by a positive movement of the wheel through several teeth. Specification 320,664 is referred to.
