Abstract

324,461. Jahn, A. R. March 7, 1929. Glue; starch; gums, carbohydrate and like.- Glue is bleached by treating a glue liquor concentrated to 15-45 per cent with sodium hydrosulphite, with or without ammonium carbonate and/or borax. The treatment is effected by churning at a comparatively low temperature such as from jellying-point up to about 60‹ C. The gases liberated are. preferably retained in the body of the glue liquor whereby a glue of cellular or porous structure is obtained. By churning in an open vessel at a higher temperature e.g. 90‹ C., the gases may be largely eliminated to form glue of ordinary cake form. The process is applicable to liquid vegetable glues such as may be obtained from roasted starch products
