Abstract
324,101. Robertson, J. R., and Vielle, J. Oct. 17, 1928. Vacuum tubes.-An annular or part-annular lowpressure gas or vapour discharge tube 1, Figs. 1 and 3, is adapted to glow when placed in close relation to a cable or conductor 3 carrying alternating current, the axial length of the discharge space being considerably greater than the radial depth thereof. One or more electrodes may be sealed into the tube. The cable may be completely surrounded by two part-annular tubes. It is stated that the cable may be an overhead power transmission line, a high-tension lead of a, magneto, or a lead to a wireless aerial. The c-entral bore of the tube may be metal plated.
