Abstract
323,397. Schulz, M. Feb. 6, 1929. Capsules, applying.-In a method of making " crown stoppers " and applying them to bottles, a flat metal ring a and a waxed paper disc b are inserted through a slit d of the stopper forming and fixing device. A sleeve i, with nicked drawing edge k, is depressed by lever mechanism on to the discs a, b. The bottle neck is then raised through a flared opening c to force the discs past the edge k to crimp the stopper. On further upward movement of the bottle a conical part p of the sleeve closes the stopper on to the bottle neck. A resilient member n forms an abutment for the stopper. In a modification, the discs are cut from a strip by the edge of the sleeve i.
