323,205. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Mathieson Alkali Works). Aug. 18, 1928. Calcium hypochlorite is obtained by chlorinating a solution of a caustic alkali, such as sodium hydroxide, to obtain an alkali hypochlorite, which is subsequently treated with calcium chloride, either directly or after separation of the alkali hypochlorite by freezing. The solution remaining after separation of the calcium hypochlorite may be used for bleaching purposes, or may be treated with lime to recover available chlorine as a basic calcium hypochlorite, or with sodium hydroxide or carbonate to precipitate the calcium present, and the resulting solution containing sodium hypochlorite may be re-used in a subsequent operation.
