Abstract

Ventilators. -A sound - dampening ventilator for walls &c, consists of a hollow structure A provided with a series of direct or bent airwavs which extend therethrough without any curved surfaces in the direction of air flow, and a lining B of sounddampening material is provided within the ventilator. The ventilator may take the following forms:-(1) A box A, Fig. 1, lined with felt, "Celotex," &c. B and having non-aligned perforations in the inner and outer walls, and, if desired, one or more intermediate, perforated partitions; (2) a number of cells each of which has a lined and bent airway; (3) a box having straight or bent tubes D lined with rubber, felt, fabric, &c. B extending completely through the box as shown in Fig. 4; (4) a box lined internally with felt &c. sheets and having tubes extending from each side of the box for a short distance within the box; (5) a box having through tubes which are lined, perforated, and sleeved by tubes of larger diameter, (6) a number of separate escapements each containing a lined tube; (7) a box lined with felt &c. as at B, Fig. 6, and provided with louvres F in the inner and outer walls and with one or more intermediate partitions G formed of cloth, felt, &c. or composed of louvres. The ventilator may be fitted in walls or doors, or it may be arranged in an auxiliary door arranged in the frame of the main door when the latter is open.
