Closure members, simple lift.-In order to. compensate for variations in the length of the stem or the actuating-rod of mushroom valves of internal-combustion or other engines due to changes in temperature, the head a of the valve is made concavo-convex. As the valve becomes hot, the centre part of the head falls slightly, so as to compensate for the increase in the length of the stem.
