Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves; closure members, diaphragm. -In a fluid-operated diaphragm valve 1, Fig. 3, controlled, for example, by a three-way cock 11 connected to a source of pressure, represented by an elevated water tank 13, the diaphragm 5 coacts with an annular seating 2 within and around which stream-lined ribs or webs 3, 4 are provided to support the diaphragm when closed. The cover 6 is reinforced externally by ribs 7 and is domed internally to support the diaphragm when open. A pressure gauge 15 is shown adapted to indicate the pressure in the pipe controlled by the main valve; this can be done by closing the drain pipe 12 by the cock 14 and turning the cock 11 to connect the pipe 10 with the gauge 15.
