Locking.- A self-locking nut, having an inclined slot e cut between its upper and lower faces has its lower face formed in a helix producing a step d below the starting point of the slot. When screwed down on to the work, the slot e is partially closed and the step gives an additional ratchet-like locking effect against the surface of the work.
