Rotary machines. - A multicolour printing-machine of the kind in which the sheets are carried by a gripper cylinder 9 around an impression cylinder 10 formed with a number of impression surfaces coacting with a similar number of printing-surfaces 30, 32, 34, 36 on the printing-cylinder 11, the cylinder 9 being fitted with one more set of grippers than the number of printing-surfaces, is constructed with two feed-tables 3, 18 and automatic sheet-forwarding devices which feed to alternate grippers of the cylinder 9 from a pile 1 of unprinted sheets and from a second pile of unprinted sheets, or from an oscillating feed and delivery table 17 which receives sheets already printed on one side from the grippers 12 of the delivery chains. Such a machine when fitted with four printing-surfaces 30, 32, 34, 36 may print at each rotation of the cylinders 10, 11 a single sheet in four colours, or may print a sheet with perfected impressions in two colours, or sheets perfected in one colour, or four sheets with one impression on one side. When perfected impressions are being produced, the sheets printed on one side are taken by the grippers 12, and during delivery the edges of the sheets are supported by bars 14 until blowing- devices 15 direct the sheet released by the grippers 12 on to the table 17 which is fitted with guides 16. This table is raised to pass the sheet on to the feed-table 18, from which the printed sheet passes to the cylinder 9. After receiving a perfected impression the sheet is taken by the grippers 27 and delivered by blowers 29 on to a delivery table 28. Drying-apparatus.-To dry the impressions the bars 14 may be heated, or the blowers 15, 29 may deliver hot air on to the printed sheets. The blowers may be turned about their longitudinal axes when not required to operate, and may be arranged in groups so that the number of blowers in operation can be varied.
