Abstract
318,112. Latour, M. Aug. 27, 1928, [Convention date]. Aerials; directive signalling. - Relates to a short-wave aerial comprising a horizontallyarranged continuous conductor bent to form alternate horizontal and vertical sections, all lying in one plane, and all acting as radiators. In order that such an aerial may radiate or receive in or from a direction making any desired angle x with its plane, it is designed in accordance with the formula h + x x cos a = (2n + 1) #/2, where h and x are the respective lengths of the vertical and horizontal sections, # is the wave-length, and n is any integer. For maximum radiation in the plane of the aerial (a = o), the following values may be taken : n = o, h = #/4 and x = #/8. Another example giving a = o for all values of x, is n = o, h = #/2. If in the latter example x = h, then when # = 2h, maximum radiation is in the plane of the aerial; but by increase of the* wave-length the beam is swung away from the aerial plane, and when # = 4h is normal to that plane. A plurality of aerials may be arranged in parallel planes or in the same plane, or aerials as described may be combined with aerials which radiate in directions normal to their planes. Specification 272,117 is disclaimed.
