Abstract

Internal fittings. - A closure for food containers comprises a disc of paper pulp, woollen paper, cotton paper, asbestos or the like, which has been impregnated solely with a hygroscopic substance, such as calcium chloride. The interior of the disc may be impregnated to a greater extent than the surface, for instance, by immersion in a solution of the hygroscopic substance, and subsequent washing of the surface. The disc 1, Fig. 8, may be fitted in a skeleton ring 9 with interrupted threads 10 for attachment to the container. In another form, Fig. 11, for combination with a cap, the disc 1 is formed with concentric ribs 12 for ensuring an air-space between the disc and the cap. Alternatively the disc may be plain, and the cap concentrically ridged. In the form shown in Fig. 15, the disc is accommodated in a groove 16 in the flange of the cap 2.
