Abstract
315,793. Messerschmitt, W. July 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Planes and the like, construction of.-A single spar aircraft wing or damping surface is constructed with the stiffening ribs divided into several sections R' - - R<4>, these sections being combined with the adjoining plates a-b, a-c, b-d, c-e of the outer skin B extending along the whole or a, large portion of the span and with continuous stiffening sections P secured to the plates, to form partial aggregates which may be trough-shaped or flat according to the shape of the part of the wing which they form, and are singly connected to the spar H to form a final continuous structure in which all the parts, including the skin B, contribute to the strength of the wing. The rib sections are T-section and are attached to spar H and to a light division G by angle sections n; one or more diagonals D may be included. Rivets or screws may be used in assembling and additional stiffening may be provided at the connections.
