Abstract

Gas batteries.-A storage battery comprises electrodes B, L of activated carbon or other substance unaffected by the electrolyte or by the chemical changes taking place in the battery, but capable of absorbing the gases evolved when the charging current is passed through the battery. The poles of the battery are constituted by plates A, K in contact with the electrodes and the latter are separated by a porous plate M. The electrodes and separator are saturated with electrolyte which consists of any acid, base or salt solution such as a solution of caustic soda to which a colloidal or gelatinous material may be added. The container may be of wood, glass, metal, cardboard, &c., and may be closed by a covering Y of pitch, shellac, rubber, &c.
